Today I got really lucky and got to experience House of Ladosha’s “The Whole House Eats” by myself.
I was in the neighborhood so I decided to stop by Superchief Gallery and check it out. For whatever reason, without fail, I will always attempt to go to a museum or gallery on a Monday and forget that every museum and gallery is closed on Mondays. The guys outside were so nice and cool they invited me in to check it out anyway.
It was very surreal and special to see the work in complete silence. I really got to take everything in without distraction.
My favorite piece was a three page letter called “Does It Look Like I Play Fucking Basketball?” by Adam Radakovich. The letter starts off saying “I feel I must write you this letter because of what I heard that really made me feel bad.” It goes on to say “Do you really know down in your heart what you are giving up?” This was an anonymous letter written to him by someone who felt like they needed to tell him that quitting the basketball team was going to ruin his life. The three pages of the letter were placed on the wall under Cunty Crawford Ladosha’s CUNTY basketball jersey.
House of Ladosha continues to inspire me on a regular basis. Their work is brave and important and it makes me feel really blessed to live in New York City at this point in my life. The show is still open to the public for 3 more days. Stop by Superchief at 9 Clinton Street in LES if you have a minute!!!
